Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs (moda), together with the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research and the Information Service Industry Association of R.O.C., has announced the companies selected for its Voluntary Green Software Guidance Pilot. Nine companies were chosen nationwide. Big-O Information Intelligence Corp. (大鷗摩飛智能有限公司) is one of them, alongside Trend Micro, Galaxy Software Services, Openfind, SYSTEX, MiTAC Information Technology, HwaCom Systems, Yojue Intelligent Technology and Mika Technology. It is Taiwan's first proof-of-concept (POC) for guiding and labelling the carbon footprint of software itself — and Big-O is the smallest company on the list and the only AI startup positioned on AI × Sustainability.
1. What was announced: nine companies, two workstreams
The call belongs to the Voluntary Green Software Guidance Pilot under moda's 2026 (ROC year 115) Green Digital Services Planning and Promotion program. Selected companies receive two kinds of guidance:
• Software carbon-emission accounting — building a calculable, comparable method for the emissions a piece of software produces during development and operation.
• Green software label pilot — validating the assessment process and indicators before a formal label scheme launches.
Selected (in the order published): Trend Micro, Galaxy Software Services, Openfind, SYSTEX, MiTAC Information Technology, HwaCom Systems, Big-O Information Intelligence, Yojue Intelligent Technology, Mika Technology. The original announcement is on moda's Green Digital Services site.
2. Why Big-O
Since its founding in 2023, Big-O has defined itself around AI × Sustainability, and its product line is built on that axis: EcoComm AI (sustainable commerce platform), EcoGen AI (sustainable content and ESG report generation), and a recommendation engine whose objective function is low carbon (patented in Taiwan). "How much carbon does the software itself emit?" is not a new question for us — it is the other side of the question our products already answer. We have been helping customers account for the carbon of products and logistics; this time the ruler is applied to our own code.
Among the nine, Big-O is the only AI startup. We treat that as a responsibility: the methods and indicators from the pilot will be fed back into our SaaS products as quickly as possible, so that the SMEs using Big-O services can also get a quantified answer about the carbon footprint of their digital tools.
3. What this means for customers
In ESG disclosure, one of the most common and hardest questions for SMEs is: "Are the digital tools you use themselves green?" Today there is almost no verifiable answer. Big-O joined this pilot to turn that question from "we don't know" into "here is the number":
• Calculate the software carbon emissions of Big-O services using the official pilot method, and publish the results on completion.
• Productize the method so customers can see the estimated emissions corresponding to their own usage in the EcoComm / EcoGen consoles.
• Use the pilot results as the basis for a future application for the formal green software label.
These are directions of work during the pilot; actual deliverables and timing follow the program schedule.
4. About Big-O Information Intelligence Corp.
